In present time, virtual meetings are very common through platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom, I got to learn that nonverbal communication is still very important, even when people are not together physically. It provide support on what we say and make virtual communication clearer and more engaging.
I think, the effective way to use nonverbal communication in virtual meetings is by looking at the facial expressions and where the eye contact is. Focusing at the camera helps people unlock the sense of eye contact and shows the attention you are giving to the speaker. Using simple or repeated actions like smiling or nodding while someone is speaking or presenting can make conversation more interesting and understanding.
Also, things like Posture, body language or movement also very important while having a conversation with the other person. If we Sit straight it looks like you are paying attention and understanding the words that the speaker is talking about and staying visible on camera, and avoiding distractions can make a speaker appear more confident and professional. Even the small thinks matter like hand gestures . On the other hand, looking away from the screen or appearing disengaged may unintentionally send the wrong message.
Tone or pitch of voice is another significant matter in nonverbal element in virtual communication. Speaking clearly, at a steady pace, and with appropriate emphasis helps prevent misunderstandings, especially when visual cues are limited. Overall, being mindful of nonverbal communication in virtual meetings helps strengthen verbal messages, improve understanding, and build more effective professional connections.
