How I Can Become a Better Listener

Previously, I thought that listening just required me to remain silent while the other person spoke. However, with the help of this course, I got to realized that listening includes more than just being quiet. It involves concentration, and an interest in what the other person is saying.  A good example of how I can improve my listening skills is to pay close attention to what the speaker says. This suggests that I should pay complete attention to what the speaker is saying rather than being distracted by other activities, such as checking my phone. It provide support on what we say and make virtual communication clearer and more engaging. I think, the effective way to use nonverbal communication in virtual meetings is by looking at the facial expressions and where the eye contact is. Having an understanding of the subject makes you not totally reliant on your notes. Keeping the presentation clear and organized is another essential point. The introduction will grab everyone’s attention, and then there will be main points, followed by a conclusion to make sure that people remember why this presentation was given in the first place. I have also learned that a slide should be kept neat and tidy, rather than stuffed with information, as this will distract people’s attention from what’s being spoken. Body language greatly influences the perceived confidence and competence of a presenter.
